Technical Excellence isnot instinctive

We all know good versus bad, good versus mediocre, poor quality shitty stuff versus high quality stuff. We believe that this is instinctively  right. But technical excellence does not seem to be that instinctive.

Excellence is not the same as better. It’s amindset of no compromise.

Excellence is qualitatively different from better. Excellence is not about  being the best in a group. Excellence is not about standing first in the class or reaching the destination in the shortest time or writing your code in the minimum number of lines of code. Excellence is not about winning the race. Excellence is not relative. Excellence  is a qualitatively different mindset. It is a mindset of no compromise.

Foundation of technical excellence is the ability to separate out themediocre from the excellent.

Rising tide lifts all boats. Excellence tides boats during low tides.mediocre from the excellent.

Excellence is needed for more than just getting more business from happy customers. The first reason for excellence is because if we aim for excellence, we can bring in a culture of no compromise. And it’s this culture that sees you through when the going gets tough. The culture of no compromise is  not a matter of quantitative superiority. It is not about, oh, the people or the companies which do not have this kind of a culture will be able to get a certain volume of business. It is not a quantitative issue. A culture of no compromise fundamentally strengthens a company where other companies will simply be destroyed. When the going gets tough, then only the strong survive.
